What to see in Estoril and surroundings
To escape from the routine, there are many activities that we can do. But how about a trip to the beach, with the windows open and your hair blowing in the wind? The coastal road, overlooking the sea, takes you directly to Estoril, one of the oldest cities in Portugal. Known for its beaches, this town invites you on summer days, with the smell of the sea and, of course, a lot of relaxation. But there is so much to see in and around Estoril!
First of all, its relationship with golf makes Estoril an outstanding destination for lovers of this sport. The variety of golf courses annually attracts thousands of practitioners, so a visit to the Daniel Grimm Golf School is a must.
If you are looking for natural beauty, with clear waters, the sandy beaches of da Poça beach, das Moitas beach, São Pedro do Estoril beaches, da Azarujinha beaches and, of course, the renowned do Tamariz beach are mandatory destinations. Venture to walk along the long sandbanks, keep seashells as a souvenir until your next return and let yourself be enchanted by the magical sunsets of the region.
Also, with an excellent network of roads and transport, there are other places around Estoril that you really have to visit. Less than 10 minutes away is Cascais, which we love with its mansions and, of course, its natural bay. Be sure to visit the Santa Maria House and the Santa Maria Lighthouse, as well as the Citadel of Cascais, an imposing 16th-century fortress built by the sea. Enjoy and taste light meals, where the highlight is, of course, the fresh fish and seafood, very close to the coast!
Sintra's green palaces and parks are also a good idea to visit for anyone visiting Estoril. Feel like a prince or princess at da Pena Palace, a national monument whose beauty cannot be described in words. If you have time, Quinta da Regaleira is a beautiful place, considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Bring your camera, you'll want to remember this tour!
And since the Portuguese capital is a stopover par excellence, enjoy the proximity between Lisbon and Estoril. From typical neighbourhoods like Alfama, to viewpoints with dreamlike views, to walks along the river in Belém, Lisbon makes all visitors happy. Immerse yourself in Portuguese history, present in the variety of recognized monuments, such as the Jerónimos Monastery, São Jorge Castle, the Monument dos Descobrimentos or the Belém Tower. At the end of the day, we suggest a cocktail or a cool drink in Bairro Alto, admiring the views over the Tagus River.
